The “three innovations” philosophy is applied in the undergraduate education of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University (Wuhan University Second Clinical School), which is intended to cultivate high-end medical talents that meet the needs of health cause, with humanities quality, solid theoretical knowledge, innovation spirit and practical skills, and capable of lifelong learning and considerable potential. The undergraduate education mainly applies five-year system and explores long-term mechanism. The Second Clinical School undertakes the undergraduate clinical teaching of five-year, seven-year and eight-year clinical medicine, stomatology, medical examination, public health, pharmaceutics and other disciplines and education programs. Each year the number of enrolled undergraduate students is 600~700. The hospital is also responsible for education of foreign students from the United States, India, Pakistan and other 10 nations. In 2001, the hospital and University of Nancy co-established a seven-year Sino-French Experimental Class. Up to now, 5 classes have graduated and the graduates from the experimental class have received good recognition and high praise of their employers. The students have also made great contribution for Sino-French communication. In 2009, the hospital took part in the medical education reform initiated by Wuhan University and University of Chicago. The reform was intended to introduce foreign advanced education concepts, improve teaching method, and enhance the education quality.
