In 1960, after graduating from Wuhan Medical College (current Tongji Medical College), he volunteered to work in Qinghai and stayed there for 16 years. The professor studied and worked in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Department of Public Health Research Institute, University of Pittsburgh. His long-term medical practice, teaching and researches were based on local communities. He has won 8 awards for research results. In recent years, the professor dedicated himself to the research of AIDS prevention and treatment. He is a famous AIDS expert in China, and the director of Hubei AIDS Clinical Training Center.
